Gordon Haskell - Shadows On The Wall
2002 Flying Sparks Records
a cura di: Franco Mannarini

Are you completly satisfied about your last work?
I am satisfied, but it wasn't my decision to record at that time. I would rather have waited until I had finished looking at Harrys Bar. I would have liked to explore more versions of the songs on Harrys bar--There are more hits there.---Re-done. My manager wanted an album for his own record company, and I did as I was asked. He was thinking of money- very foolishly.I have since left my manager, and I am my own man again. The next album i want to do is a jazz record.
Wich are the most important ispiration for doing this new album?

The inspiration  for my songwriting comes from my spiritual nature. If I am in tune, the songs are inspired. If not, I don't write anything usually. Managers can put one out of tune, as can some journalists who don't do their research properly. It can take me weeks of meditation to recover. I should have been a Monk.
Is There some others artists that you think important to reccomend us?
Tony O Malley is worth a listen. he's like Bill Withers, Boz Scaggs.Michael Franks was the artist who inspired me the most, I love his work. Stevie Wonder is the best all round singer-songwriter-musician--and he's very spiritually in tune. Marvin Gaye 'Whats Going On' is a spiritual record I still love, and hard to beat. Bebo Norman 's album 'Ten Thousand days' is brilliant Boz Scaggs' album 'Dig' is always top of my choices. And of course, James Taylor never lets you down They all have that spiritual connection I recognise.
Are there some others projects for the your future?
My next project is a jazz album starting in February
Is there something in your album that you don't like enough?
I think all the tracks came out the way I wanted. I just didn't want to do it, as it draws on my past material too much, and although I like the songs, it's not an album that shows where I am headed. It's a manager's record. I prefer travelling at my pace. The record business is always in a hurry, and the artists get the blame. Its not about money, its about music, and music is spiritual to me, and comes to me when I deserv
e it. Things will be right from now on. I wrote and produced and sang Harrys bar. The locusts came and stripped the vineyard like the locusts they are. I say let Nature take its course. I will plant the seeds and watch them grow and wait for the harvest. The record business is like supermarket food. Its forced, and produced too quickly and not as good to taste as when one buys fresh.
