Are you completly satisfied about your last work?
I'm
satisfied to a certain point considering I did what I could with the
resources I had. I did not have the luxury of a Record Company and a big
budget for recording. I recorded all this stuff in my bedroom, with the
exception of the drums. My friend Brett Clark in Nashville played drums
on the stuff and did an AMAZING job. We recorded them in his living
room. I did all the other instruments, the programming, the bass, the
mixing. I did it all myself. In a way that's good and in a way that's
bad. I think I did a GREAT job and made a great sounding Indie record.
However, I wish I was able to work with a producer like Eric Valentine
who did the Smash Mouth "Astro Lounge" record. That's an
amazing record. The sonic quality and all the little intricacies are
unbelievable. It's very poppy with great melodies for all the radio
listeners, yet there's stuff for all the musicians who are looking for
the cool chords, the cool changes, etc. That's what I strive to do, to
make music that is very listen-able, very memorable, without being too
simple and cheesy. So I guess the answer is, Satisfied? Yes. COMPLETELY
Satisfied? NO.
Wich are the most important ispiration for doing this new album?
Well,
The songs themselves were inspired by many different things. A lot of
the songs are inspired by relationships. At that time in my life, that
was the most real thing I could write about. That's what I was going
through. But there are a few that deal with moving, deal with how hard
it is to succeed in this world, with the idea that your life is yours
and you can do what you want with it, even if it's not what other people
expect of you. The inspiration for making an album, was basically to
record them all, make a statement, and make a legitimate CD. It's been a
great experience so far.
Is There some others artists that you think important to reccomend
us?
Well, my favorite band is "Over The Rhine", and I love
"Duncan Sheik" , or Jonatha Brooke". They've all been
huge inspirations to me
Are there some others projects for the your future?
Yes, I'm currently working on my new album. I'm really excited about
it. I'm also going to be doing the score to an independant film called
"Judy". I'm looking forward to that. That's something I
wouldn't mind getting into in the future. Music for film. I live in Los
Angeles, so I'm in the right place for something like that.
Is there something in your album that you don't like enough?
Just
that the sonic quality isn't as good as I'd like it to be. But that's
just me, other than that, I'm very happy! David
