Bob Gold - Departures
2003 3919 Records
a cura di: Franco Mannarini

Are you completly satisfied about your last work?
Departures was my first solo album, and I released it because I felt good about the works, which were almost all free improvisations. At the time (summer 2001) it was the best that I could play. Three years later I feel that the music I improvise is deeper and richer, but I have much affection for that first album.
Wich are the most important ispiration for doing this new album?
Many inspirations: my young children, paintings done by my father, still photographs from old movies that I love. And the sound of my amazing Steinway. A lot of my improvisations on Departures came from specific images in my mind. I seem now to be more inspired by stories and feelings than I was then.
Is There some others artists that you think important to reccomend us?
There are so many artists that do not get enough attention. Pianists Kenny Werner, who also writes articles and books about improvisation, Fred Hersch, Ritchie Beirach, Mitchel Forman, and 2 great Italian pianists, Enrico Pieranunzi and Franco D'Andrea. On ECM records John Taylor and Bobo Stenson should be better known. And the great classical pianists Artur Rubinstein, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Sviatoslav Richter, Glenn Gould, and so many more.
Are there some others projects for the your future?
My new album, to be released in a few months, is TRUE LOVE and OTHER STORIES. It is also a solo piano album, but it has a singer-songwriter character to it that I think sets it apart from a lot of improvised solo piano.
Is there something in your album that you don't like enough?
I wish that my first album could have shown more sides of my musical personality. My second album, TRUE LOVE... does, so I think it is just a matter of growing as a musician and a person, and learning to play your heart out for a couple of microphones. I thank you for the honor of your questions and a chance to share my music with your listeners.
